Flow Cytometry & Automation Technician (all genders)

We are seeking a Flow Cytometry & Automation Technician to join our AI Driven Lab Robotics team. This role sits at the intersection of flow cytometry, screening, and lab automation, requiring deep hands-on expertise in cell sorting, assay development, user support, and instrument operations.

You will play a pivotal role in establishing and operating a new flow cytometry core capability while supporting automated screening workflows across the institute. The position is approximately 80% FACS focused and 20% robotics focused, enabling scalable, reproducible, and high-quality experimental workflows across AITHYRA.

Your Tasks

  • Establish and operate AITHYRA's new flow cytometry and cell sorting capability within the AI Driven Lab Robotics group.
  • Set up, optimize, and execute flow cytometry assays, sorting experiments, and flow-based screening workflows.
  • Develop new FACS assays and screening methods in collaboration with internal scientific stakeholders.
  • Support scientists across AITHYRA with experimental planning, assay setup, instrument use, and troubleshooting.
  • Train users on flow cytometry instrumentation, workflows, and best practices.
  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, quality control, and troubleshooting of flow cytometry and cell sorting equipment.
  • Stay up to date on new developments, applications, and emerging technologies in flow cytometry and FACS.
  • Support routine screening activities on laboratory automation platforms.
  • Collaborate with the automation team to support future integration and automation of FACS-based workflows.
  • Maintain a safe, compliant, and well-documented working environment, including BSL-2 laboratory practices.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with Flow cytometry and FACS operation, sorting workflow setup, instrument QC, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience in flow cytometry and/or fluorescence-activated cell sorting in a research institute, core facility, biotech, or similar environment.
  • Experience with assay development or optimization for flow cytometry-based applications, including analysis approaches such as gating strategy development and data interpretation.
  • Experience supporting multiple users or projects in a shared scientific environment.
  • Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory environment or readiness to do so.
  • Experience with instruments such as BD FACSAria and/or Agilent Penteon.
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation platforms is a plus, including systems such as Opentrons, Hamilton, Beckman, or related technologies.
  • Relevant vendor training or flow cytometry certifications are a plus.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell workflows and fluorescence-based assays.
