This position is available on a fixed-term basis for 6 months beginning earliest in July with 38 hours per week.

Your main tasks and responsibilities

  • This Master's project is intended to complement your education and provide you with insight into the work and activities of the R&D department of a pharmaceutical company.
  • The project should last 6 months, and supervision of a master's thesis on the topic of "Image classification in biopharmaceutical industry using machine learning techniques" is offered
  • Supporting the Vienna R&D team with the following tasks:
  • Image data analysis and feature extraction & engineering
  • Development of machine learning (ML) pipelines using (un)supervised methods
  • Model performance assessment, validation, and robustness assessment using appropriate statistical metrics
  • Benchmark ML-based classification against expert-based and/or orthogonal methods
  • Documentation within the scope of the above-mentioned tasks

Your expertise and ideal skill set

  • Student with a scientific or process engineering background, preferably in statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, bioprocess engineering, physics or similar
  • Interest in writing a master's thesis on image analysis and ML applied to biopharmaceuticals
  • Mandatory lab courses during the studies are completed
  • Solid programming skills (Python REQUIRED; ML & image analysis libraries is advantageous)
  • Understanding of statistics, data analysis and unsupervised/supervised ML concepts
  • High motivation and willingness to learn
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Interest in gaining experience in pharmaceutical R&D
  • Personal responsibility, flexibility, and ability to work in a team
  • Precise way of working

The minimum gross salary according to the collective agreement (chemical industry) is EUR 3,395.16 based on 38 hours per week (full-time).
