The position

Join our Innovation Unit in Vienna and play a key role in advancing innovative drug discovery by ensuring safe and compliant operations in our biology laboratories. As an (Associate) Principal Research Coordinator in the Discovery Research team, you will lead the Biology Safety Team and act as a role model for a strong safety culture. In this role, you will work closely with scientists and safety stakeholders to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and business continuity in accordance with internal policies as well as national and international regulations. This is a permanent part‑time position (35%) within a dynamic, international research environment.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a team of scientists and laboratory staff to address biological laboratory safety related topics.
  • Establish, update, and oversee safety training materials, ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in line with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the biological laboratories, the Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Department, and the Occupational Health Service (Arbeitsmedizinischer Dienst) on all matters related to biological safety.
  • Represent the Biology Safety Team and the company during internal and external audits related to biological safety.

Requirements

  • Doctoral (PhD) degree in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in biological laboratories, including cell culture activities at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL‑2).
  • Experience with lenti‑ and retroviral vectors, including associated biosafety considerations, is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as the Austrian Arbeitnehmerschutzgesetz, Verordnung über biologische Arbeitsstoffe (VbA), and Gentechnikgesetz (GTG), is considered a plus.
  • Fluency in English and German, combined with a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset and strong networking and communication skills.

The minimum gross annual salary for this position is EUR 77.400 per year (full-time) according to the classification in the collective bargaining agreement for the chemical industry. Depending on professional experience and qualifications, we offer an overpayment.
