The position
Viratherapeutics, a subsidiary of the Boehringer Ingelheim group, combines the agility of a biotech start-up with the resources of a large pharmaceutical company. Our team in Innsbruck, Austria--a vibrant city known for its quality of life--is dedicated to developing innovative viral-based immuno-oncology therapies. As part of our dynamic oncology R&D unit, you will be part of a team to discover and develop novel cancer treatments, bringing breakthrough therapies from the lab to clinical practice.
We are looking for a highly motivated and creative Lab Scientist for biological analysis of oncolytic virus activity to support the development of cancer vaccines.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Establish and characterize primary human tumor ex vivo cultures.
- Investigate mechanisms of actions of novel oncolytic virus/immunomodulatory therapeutics in human tumor ex vivo based primary cultured systems.
- Establish and perform cell- and molecular assays (e.g. co-cultures of primary cells, histology including IF/IHC and RNAscope of tissue specimens, ELISA, RNA expression analyses).
- Independently perform, evaluate and document experiments.
- Support sample organization/logistics.
Requirements
- Master/diploma degree or higher in immunology, biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine or equivalent.
- Background in immunology/cancer immunology/cell biology is an advantage.
- Sound knowledge in basic cell- and molecular assays including trouble-shooting abilities.
- Hands-on experience in tissue-based assays (3D) or patient-derived samples is a strong plus.
- Previous experience in histology is an advantage.
- Highly versatile, with the capacity to adapt seamlessly to diverse tasks and challenges.
- Ability to independently plan, execute, evaluate and document experiments.
- Exceptional organizational skills that ensure efficiency and productivity and strong attention to detail to deliver precise and high-quality results.
- Strong team player with excellent communication skills willing to work in a company where personal engagement and empowering combined with accountability is highly supported.
- The position requires excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written.

The minimum gross annual salary for this position is EUR 47.532,24 per year (full-time) according to the classification in the collective bargaining agreement for the chemical industry. Depending on professional experience and qualifications, we offer an overpayment.
