Our Safety Assurance Team is responsible for the fulfilment of safety requirements for safety-relevant Thales products/solutions according to the Thales Safety Life Cycle. It is focused on the monitoring of the technical projects and specific applications as well as on the evidence of safety according to CENELEC EN 5012x. The successful closing of the corresponding documentation is the condition for customer acceptance and administrative approval of products and specific applications.


  • Oversee the full lifecycle of system development (specific ETCS L1/L2 On-Board Systems) from initial requirements to assessment and appraisal
  • Define functional safety requirements and the necessary functional safety measures in co-operation with the project team
  • Support the development team for fulfilment of safety targets and system requirements
  • Execute failure and hazard analysis methods
  • Evaluate technical documentation regarding compliance to technical specifications and safety standards
  • Define validation tests
  • Create the validation report and the safety case according to EN 50126/50129
  • Interact with assessors and appraisal authorities


  • A completed education in a technical field, ideally a university degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • Around 3 years of relevant experience in a technical development environment, i.e. development / test of technical systems, functional safety engineering or similar
  • Experience and know-how of functional safety analysis tools (FMEA, FTA, HAZOP)
  • Experience with full lifecycle of system development projects
  • Understanding for integration of train protection systems in locos, especially ETCS On-Board Equipment is a benefit
  • Knowledge of required railway standards (EN 50126, EN 50129, EN 50128 and ERTMS/ETCS specification) is a strong advantage
  • Analytical thinking ability and good observation skills
  • Correct and accurate work ethic and organizational skills
  • Assertive and dynamic personality
  • Teamwork skills
  • Fluency in English, German is an advantage
